Am I Allergic to Bare Minerals? Here's How to Tell. | Alpha Mom

Alpha Mom

Amy, I have been reading your blogs on and off for a lot of years now. Sometimes I get a little too addicted to the Internet and have to make myself stop for a while. But I always come back. :) Anyway, I have a question. It's sort of time sensitive since it involves whether or not I am having a makeup reaction and should stop using it before my face falls off (but I know you receive zillions of e-mails and might not be able to respond right away--just thought it wouldn't hurt to try asking you). I just recently purchased the Bare Minerals starter kit because I wanted something very light and natural. Confession: I am mostly a makeup virgin. Ok, I have worn it before. I have some makeup that I break out for special occasions. But no one ever really taught me how to use it well, and I never felt like I needed it. Now, I still don't think I NEED it, but I have had makeup done on me (by salons, at Mary Kay parties, and so on), and I've seen how a nice, simple "routine" can make me look

Updated Blog Sale 12/30/12 Ft. MAC, Tarte, Jane Iredale, Urban Decay, OPI, Essie + more!

by noreply@blogger.com (Angela) @ Unnatural Beauty: Who Says That it's Only What's on the Inside That Counts?

I have a few items to sell, leave a comment with paypal address if interested and I will invoice you. I ship worldwide and costs will vary according to package weight. Most domestic shipments will be roughly $2.25-$2.75 if under 10 oz. Please don't ask about how much it costs to ship to such and such country because all I can give is an approximation without knowing how heavy the package will be. Most shipping to Canada is roughly $7 or so for a package with a couple of items but most anywhere in the world should be between $6-$10 if the package weight is under 12 ounces. If it ends up being a dollar or more less when I create a label, I will refund you the difference to be fair.

** There is a $10 minimum purchase requirement please!

**If you want to see pictures, there are some listed in an old blog sale post which I have linked with certain items below. I can also email you pictures but right now, for some reason, I am having trouble attaching photos to my blog posts. I have linked my older blog sale next to some of the items if a picture is available on the old post. Some of the items, if you visit the old blog sale, may still be available. If you want any of those, leave comment in THIS post.

Beauty Review: Is Everyday Minerals a Non-Toxic and Eco-Friendly Alternative to bareMinerals? - Ecocult

Ecocult

Last month when I was wandering the floor at Natural Products Expo West, I stopped by a booth for a makeup company called Everyday Minerals. I was curious, because I’ve been using bareMinerals for some time, and had an inkling I should find a replacement. bareMinerals isn’t so toxic, but I feel like there is always room for improvement, right? Sign Up for EcoCult’s Newsletter The very nice girl working the booth told me that Everyday Minerals is indeed less toxic than bareMinerals, and that her skin had actually cleared up after she made the switch. Intrigued, I took home some samples to try for myself. Here’s what I found: The Price Everyday Minerals is very much cheaper than bareMinerals. For example, BM’s concealer costs $18 while EDM’s costs $9. However, it might be worth paying for the built-in SPF broad spectrum protection you get in bareMinerals products. Winner: Everyday Minerals by a mile The Look When I tried on Everyday Minerals, I felt that I had a healthier, more fresh and shimmery glow. And their concealer gave me as much coverage over blemishes and under-eye circles, without the heavy, powdery look. Winner: Everyday Minerals The Ingredients As far as ingredients, let’s start …

Borba:New Alternative to Healthier Skin - by the Bottle

by noreply@blogger.com (Tips For Woman) @ You Are Beautiful

Improve Your Skin from Within

Ever in the search for the most effective product to treat acne-prone skin, I am always trying new products as they come out. And sure enough I was very eager to try the revolutionary skin care line by BORBA, founded by Scott Vincent Borba, an entrepreneur who developed a line of skin care products that began with vitamin infused drink that now include chocolates and gummies that is formulated with vitamins and minerals that clarifies and/or firms your skin from within. Besides these drinks and candy, the line consists of cleansers, "concentrates" (which serve as toners), and lotion (both one for daytime with SPF 15 and one for nighttime).

In addition, as mentioned, there are several formulas that cater toward different skin types: Replenishing, Anti-Aging/Clarifying, Skin Claming, Firming, Clarifying, and Age-Defying (though not all of these formulas has corresponding topical products. My mother drinks the water supplement formulated for anti-aging/clarifying, with mangosteen extracts, and she stands by the product as well. I, not only drink the supplement formulated for clarifying skin with pomegranate extracts, but I use the corresponding cleanser, concentrate, and lotion, not only because they smell great (like a pomegranate), but because they are truly effective! The cleanser is great because it contains "micro diamond dusts," which are like beads to exfoliate the skin and it lathers really well. At the same time it rinses off very easily! The concentrate is very refreshing and easy to put on, as it has the consistency of a gel and a cooling sensation. In addition, the lotion is not to be outdone, as it goes on very smoothly and disappears. The daytime lotion as mentioned before has SPF 15 to help prevent sun damage, but the nighttime lotion has a higher concentration of the active ingredients, which is why I only use the nighttime lotion - I can always put sunscreen on top of the lotion during the day time. I would rather get a better concentration of the special extracts that help clear my skin.

Besides the revolutionary drinks that improve the skin quality from the inside, the topical products contain "Fiber-Knit Technology that surrounds skin with nutrient-infused ingredients and cosmeceutical-grade fibers," which lock in the active ingredients on the skin and helps it penetrate deeper to the problem areas. In the clarifying series, it contains cotton fibers, which helps absorb excess oil that causes skin to shine and clogs pores, which result in pimples.

As a result of using BORBA's line of 4 products, the clarity of my skin has vastly improved and has resulted in less acne overall. But because I believe that skin, like hair, gets used to the same products after repetitive use for a long duration, I also rotate the usage of the BORBA line with Proactiv's 3-step system (extra-strength) which also contribute to the improvement of my skin.

If anything, the drink contains plenty of vitamins that benefit you on a daily basis and give you energy such as vitamins A, B, E and C, among other key healthy ingredients such as magnesium and zinc. It is a win-win situation - clarifying your skin and making you healthier by providing vital nutrients. For me, it is a product worth the price!

11 best mineral foundations

11 best mineral foundations

The Independent

Since American brand bareMinerals first entered the cosmetic-consciousness on daytime telly infomercials, hoards of women have been taking to the internet and effusing to friends and family, sharing their stories of “conversion”. In theory, mineral foundations are great: natural, non-comedogenic and potentially problem-solving for sensitive or break-out prone skin. But they’re also super-noticeable when they’re wrong: cakey, drying and accentuating pores, fine lines and flakey patches – and downright messy to apply.

A Friend in Need.

by noreply@blogger.com (Tonja Lee) @ Wife + Mommy = This Girl

My mom had a pen pal many years ago named Yvonne.  Our family was able to make the trip to Wyoming in 1997 and meet Yvonne and her family.  I don't remember every detail of that trip, but I do remember a lot.  And I loved it.  I even still have a few pictures tucked into my childhood photo album from this trip.  Pictures of me with Yvonne's girls, Tandy and Kendra.

I recently became friends with Yvonne and Tandy on Facebook.  I haven't spoken to either of them since 1997, and actually I haven't made any contact with them now, either.  I just clicked "Add Friend."

Through these recent friendships on Facebook I have learned that Yvonne's daughter Kendra is facing a heart-breaking battle.  The battle for her unborn daughter's life.  "Kendra is 37 weeks pregnant and this past week found out that the precious baby she is carrying has a severe Ebsteins Anomoly, essentially the right atrium in the baby's heart is taking up the majority of her chest cavity and is compressing the lungs. Baby "C" as they call her has an extremely small chance of survival through childbirth."  {This information was taken from her donation page.} You can read her story here.

My heart is aching for Kendra and her family.  Though I don't know Kendra, I know that she is a wife and she is a mommy, just like me.  She is a woman who only has the option to be strong when being strong seems next to impossible.

I am amazed by her courage.  Her writing is so honest and so beautiful.

While I cannot offer much in the way of help or support for Kendra, I can offer prayers.  I can share her story in hopes that others will offer their prayers to Kendra and her family.  I have faith that our prayers will be heard and they will be answered.  Pray that Kendra, her husband, their two children, and their sweet baby Capri will have angels surrounding them, lifting them up while they climb this mountain.

The financial stress of such a fight can be overwhelming.  If you would like to offer monetary support for this sweet family you can do so by donating here.
