Share your pregnancy story, so far

by @ Pregnancy Group: A place to chat about all things related to pregnancy RSS Feed

My story is a bit of a long one, so I'll try not to get too carried away with details.

I married my husband Matt in May of 2008 and we knew that we weren't planning on having kids right away.  We said we'd "talk about it" in a year.  Well, what do you know, but I ended up getting pregnant the weekend we went away for our 1st anniversary in 2009.  A few days later, I had some major cramping.  Like so bad it made me feel like I was hot and sweaty and might pass out.  After it continued for a few hours, I had a co-worker drive me and my mom to the ER (we work on a university/hospital campus).  They did an ultrasound and couldn't see anything, but confirmed the pregnancy via blood work.  By then, the cramping had stopped.  Since they weren't able to locate the sac, they wanted to continue to monitor me, so I went in every other day for blood work to make sure the pregnancy was progressing as it should.  Unfortunately, the blood work lied!  My blood hormones were doing everything that they should in a normal and healthy pregnancy, but when they gave me another ultrasound, they located the pregnancy in my left fallopian tube.  If they had caught it earlier, they could have dissolved it via a methaltrexate shot, but since there was already a heartbeat, I needed emergency surgery and ended up losing my tube. This was super depressing b/c I wasn't all that excited about the pregnancy at first since it was a surprise but had just gotten to the excited part and I thought all was well since my blood work was good and then I heard this.  Physical recovery was fine, I was sore for a week or so and had lingering back issues for a few months, but the emotional recovery...I'd say I'm still dealing with that.

As soon as we were medically approved, we began TTC and I started charting on Fertility Friend (FF).  Funny enough, once I started charting, it was obvious to me that when I had "accidentally" gotten pregnant previously, it was because I ovulate late in my cycle.  I had assumed I was normal and I O'd halfway through.  Anyway, since my fertility was decreased by 50% b/c of the loss of my left tube, after a few unsuccessful months, we went to a Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE).  We were with one office for almost a year and went through various medical and/or IUI cycles before I decided that I just wasn't happy there.  We had taken a few month break and were just starting back up with the doctors inn November of 2010.  I had an appt at practice #1 on 11/19 and decided I wouldn't be returning there, so went to practice #2 on 11/23 for an initial appt.  I found out on 11/26 that I was pregnant for the second time with no medical interventions.  It was definitely a surprise.  But I got the bad news on 12/06, on my 32nd birthday, that this pregnancy wasn't viable either and was most likely another ectopic but in my right tube.  We couldn't locate it on an ultrasound, so knowing my history, my doctor gave me the methaltrexate shot (in my ass cheeks, fun!) to dissolve before a heartbeat was able to be formed and I lose my remaining tube.  This was also very depressing b/c we had been trying so hard for so long and then to get that news on my birthday morning, I just felt like we were cursed.

As soon as AF returned, my doctor was very proactive about treatment and I had another surgery in February 2011 to remove polyps, some endo and verify that all was well with my right tube.  And we immediately started up IUI cycles and continued through until May.  In May, I experienced a very sad and unexpected tragic loss in my family, so we stepped away from TTC b/c my heart just wasn't in it.  Then I got my third surprise and unexpected BFP in August.  Of course we are super happy and I look at it as a gift from my lost brother.  I think this gift was given to us to lessen the pain of losing him.  Or to take away the focus of the grief.  We watched this pregnancy carefully and didn't announce until we were pretty sure it was safe.  In fact, I just made the announcement (besides my bosses) at work today!

We don't plan on finding out the sex at the next ultrasound, we think we will have them put it in an envelope and open it Christmas morning.  We were going to wait until the shower, but I decided it was something better shared with close family first.  Plus, this is the first set of holidays without my brother, so it's very difficult for my family and I think it might be good to have something positive to focus on Christmas morning rather then the sadness of who is missing.

We are due April 13, 2012 and I have an open mind about my "birth plan".  I like to think that I tend to the natural side of things, but I also watched my sister give birth to her youngest a few years ago and I was terrified.  I've since some to terms that we are all strong in different ways and just b/c she was natural doesn't mean I am weak if I chose an epidural.  I'm very excited to become a mom!  But also, super scared.

And I guess I'm not all that great at keeping stories short, am I....

Am I Allergic to Bare Minerals? Here's How to Tell. | Alpha Mom

Alpha Mom

Amy, I have been reading your blogs on and off for a lot of years now. Sometimes I get a little too addicted to the Internet and have to make myself stop for a while. But I always come back. :) Anyway, I have a question. It's sort of time sensitive since it involves whether or not I am having a makeup reaction and should stop using it before my face falls off (but I know you receive zillions of e-mails and might not be able to respond right away--just thought it wouldn't hurt to try asking you). I just recently purchased the Bare Minerals starter kit because I wanted something very light and natural. Confession: I am mostly a makeup virgin. Ok, I have worn it before. I have some makeup that I break out for special occasions. But no one ever really taught me how to use it well, and I never felt like I needed it. Now, I still don't think I NEED it, but I have had makeup done on me (by salons, at Mary Kay parties, and so on), and I've seen how a nice, simple "routine" can make me look

Calgary Brides/ Bridesmaid Dress Nightmare

by @ Canadian Destination Wedding Group RSS Feed

Hello all,

I just wanted to share my experience at Cameo & Cufflinks in Calgary with you as I am just so so upset. We purchased 3 dresses there and we had issues over and over with them.

Long story short they told one of the girls to go up a size cause her bust measured a size 16. We get the dress and she's swimming in it! The bust also had to be take in 2 inches!! The alterations are costing her MORE than what she paid for the actual dress.

She tried to talk to the store and they kept saying it wasn't their fault and that the seamstress is probably over charging her. I was really upset and got on the phone and told her straight out that I was furious and asked her to explain to me that if her bust measured a size 16 why it has to be taken in 2 whole inches!! Her response was simply I don't know I don't have the dress here in front of me. Turns out I was speaking with the owner! She wasn't apologetic and didn't seem to care. I ended up hanging up on her as she was just talking over me. My wedding is 2 weeks away and I'm just stressed!! The dresses were not cheap and now there's an added cost of $320! The seamstress has to take in 2 inches at the bust, 3 at the waist and 4 off the bottom! Has anyone else experienced this?!

So just beware if you are considering shopping there.

Breast Lift Before Wedding

by @ General Wedding Planning Information RSS Feed

Hi all, I am planning for my wedding which is fixed on October this year. I just want to look picture perfect and feel beautifully radiant on my special day. So I have decided to undergo breast lift from Windsor, Ontario before my wedding as I have a quite larger breast which is saggy. But I don’t know how much time I should give between the surgery and my special day for optimal results. I was thinking to get the procedure one month before my wedding. I want to look proportional and have my gown fit perfect on me. Is there anyone here who did pre-wedding plastic surgery? What was your result? I need to plan way ahead for the breast lift before my wedding. Please share your thoughts.

Air Transat Refund Amount - Help!

by @ Canadian Destination Wedding Group RSS Feed

So according to our contract with Air Transat, we were to be refunded the cost of one trip (less fees and surcharges) for every 15 adults travelling for 7 days as part of our wedding group. We have 33 adults booked, so will be getting the base cost of 2 trips returned to us.

According to our contract, the base price of our trip was $1,089 plus fees of $386 ($1,475 in total). When I check our trip online right now, it also shows a similar base price (fluctuating daily) with a constant $386 in fees and surcharges broken out. Air Transat has told me that they will be refunding me $1,510 for two trips instead of the $2,178 I believe I am owed ($1,089 x 2), and my TA has said that the difference is just additional fees and surcharges (i.e. we get back $755 per trip, meaning only half the cost of the trip is for flight and accommodations).

Has anyone run into this issue with Air Transat? I thought by Ontario and/or Canadian law they had to disclose all fees separately from the base price, but I can't seem to find that regulation when I google it. I've asked my TA to request an itemized breakdown of the cost of the trip to prove their math, but apparently Air Transat isn't willing to do that.

Can any of the Canadian TA's chime in on the rules for breaking out additional fees from the base price? @TAPreety @TADarci

Hoping someone here can help me get my additional $668 owed to me....

Wedding Website Help

by @ Canadian Destination Wedding Group RSS Feed

I have horrible luck with everything so far.  Starting out with finding a Wedding Destination Specialist, they all were horrible so now I am using the Flight Centre and my agent is not a Wedding Destination Specialist.

So I went on this Forum 4 months ago under the name Hola 2016 but when i had issues one day logging in, I tried to reset my password it would not take so I contacted the site 1/2 dozen times with zero response.  So I am two for two.

Someone on this site recommended WIX for my wedding website...for 2 months I spent editing, after work, weekends, uploading pictures, doing it in 3 different languages....today I logged into WIX and lost everything nothing is there.  3 for 3.

I am not having much luck with this wedding planning.

As we have guests from all over the world coming to our destination wedding and they all speak one different languages.  Instead of mailing our invitations we are going to do a wedding website entering all the details in all the languages for the guests.

Here lies the problem.  I have had bad luck  WIX, I also had bad luck with this website too.  Can anyone please recommend a good wedding websites for dummies as I am not very techy.

Or can anyone recommend any other means to share information about the destination wedding to guests?

Thanks

Barbara Corcoran, the First Contest Eliminated on DWTS Season 25, Opens Up About Growing Up With Dyslexia: 'I Don't Want Anybody to Laugh'

Barbara Corcoran, the First Contest Eliminated on DWTS Season 25, Opens Up About Growing Up With Dyslexia: 'I Don't Want Anybody to Laugh'

by Dana Rose Falcone @ PEOPLE.com

Barbara Corcoran is used to calling the shots as an investor on Shark Tank. But as a competitor on season 25 of Dancing With the Stars, she’s letting partner Keo Motsepe take the lead and putting her fate in the hands of America and the show’s three judges.

On the Sept. 18 season premiere, the businesswoman, 68, along with her 27-year-old pro salsa danced to Ludacris’ “Money Maker.” They earned a 14 out of 30, putting them in last place for week 1.

“I’m back at the bottom of class in second grade being the dunce,” Corcoran said on Monday night’s Dancing With the Stars of being at the back of the pack. “I’ve been dyslexic my whole life. It definitely affects you. There’s always the stupid kid that made fun of . I don’t want anybody to laugh.”

Before foxtrotting to “Whatever Lola Wants,” the realty mogul was at least able to look on the bright side of being on the bottom — and invigorate herself to do better.

“The truth is it’s actually a good place for me to come from,” Corcoran confessed to Motsepe during rehearsal. “Everything good came because I knew how to bounce back up. Everything I’ve ever done in life has been to prove that I’m not stupid.”

RELATED VIDEO: DWTS Season 25: Barbara Meets Keo

The judges complimented Corcoran’s ability to relax during her second number, ultimately earning the pair a score of 17 out of 30.

“There’s something about a love affair that makes you relax,” she quipped.

Unfortunately, love and her newfound confidence weren’t enough to carry Corcoran to her third performance. Team Sharkeo learned Monday that they’d be the first season 25 duo to go home, landing in the bottom alongside former NFL player Terrell Owens and dancer Cheryl Burke, who performed a steamy foxtrot to Zayn Malik‘s “Pillowtalk.”

“How am I going to live without him?” Corcoran said of Motsepe after getting eliminated. “It was such an honor and probably the most exciting thing I’ve ever done in my whole life.”

She reiterated that sentiment while talking to reporters after the show, jokingly adding, “I should stick to real estate!”

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.

Hello guys! Our dream destination wedding at Barbados plan has been spoiled due to financial troubles. Jon and I are disappointed, but won't stay sad and are moving to plan B. It's still going to be a destination wedding. We are planning a wedding at my favourite place in Canada, Algonquin Park. It's not going to be a big fat wedding, but a small one with just our families and best buddies. Jon and I go there almost every year and in fact we even have a favourite waterfront cabin by an Algonquin park cottage. We are planning to call them and ask about possibilities of holding a small scale event at their facilities. If everything goes fine, it'll still be a dream wedding for me. I would like to know if anyone here had their wedding at Algonquin or any provincial park? If someone has done it, can you share your experience and tips.

The Truth About the Cancer Scare That Led to RHOC Star Peggy Sulahian's Double Mastectomy

The Truth About the Cancer Scare That Led to RHOC Star Peggy Sulahian's Double Mastectomy

by Dave Quinn @ PEOPLE.com

Cancer is a touchy topic on The Real Housewives of Orange County, what with Vicki Gunvalson‘s ex-boyfriend Brooks Ayers spending a whole season forging cancer documents and covering up his lies in order to make the Orange County Housewives believed he was in treatment.

So it’s no surprise that 100th Housewife Peggy Sulahian’s cancer scare was met with some skepticism on Monday’s all-new episode, especially when she explained that she got her double mastectomy after her doctors found abnormal cancerous cells — something she had failed to mention before.

“They found something,” the 44-year-old reality star told a table of ladies including Shannon Beador, Meghan King Edmonds, Tamra Judge and Kelly Dodd during a night out. “They did a biopsy and then they found out that it was abnormal cells. And then they said, ‘We found three millimeters of some cancer.’ I get a call from them saying, ‘Come back. We found something.’ ”

The comments were confusing considering the mother of three had previously told her RHOC costars doctors “didn’t find anything.”

“I’m very confused,” Beador said. “I honestly don’t remember Peggy saying she had cancer. And now I’m hearing that they did find cancer. So I’m a little in the dark.”

“I retired,” King Edmonds, who had uncovered Ayers’ scheme, joked. “I don’t want to open another can of worms like I did with Brooks. Peggy’s being confusing in communicating her health history. You have cancer or you don’t have cancer, it’s very black and white. No more cancergate, please!”

Lydia McLaughlin, Tamra Judge, Shannon Beador, Meghan King Edmonds, Vicki Gunvalson, Peggy Sulahian, and Kelly DoddBravo Media/Tommy Garcia

But Sulahian was happy to clear things up, recounting that even though she had BRCA gene testing — which helps women know their chance of getting breast and ovarian cancer — produced negative results, her doctors still found small cells.

“We did the MRI, we did the biopsy, call back saying that it’s abnormal cells,” she said, her doctor explaining “it was a pre-invasive cancer, it was small” in flashbacks.

“Abnormal cells means it can turn into cancer — it will turn if you don’t. They don’t want to take a chance. We’re taking care of it. With that being said, I went into the physician’s office, and she said, ‘Your came back negative but three millimeter, we found cancer.”

REAL HOUSEWIVES REWIND: Vick Apologies After Briana’s Cancer Scare

Sulahian also addressed the issue in her BravoTV blog back in August.

“I want to clear up my cancer facts,” she wrote. “Over a span of ten years, I scheduled mammograms and MRI’s every six months, my doctor found a mass in my right breast in the MRI. The immediate response to this news, was to schedule a biopsy. Despite being negative on the BRCA gene testing, the biopsy revealed pre cancerous cells within my right breast. Few weeks later, we scheduled a surgery to remove the 25 mm of mass, and sent the mass to the pathologist. In a matter of weeks, I was told that of the 25 mm removed, 3mm of it was already cancer.”

Sulahian, whose mother died of breast cancer when Sulahian was just 21 years old, then made the tough decision to take precautionary measures of undergoing a bilateral mastectomy to avoid any future scares.

“My options were limited to 3 choices: chemo, radiation, or removal of my right breast,” she added. “To be the safest, I took the measure of removing both breasts instead of limiting myself to just one. I wanted to be as safe as possible, knowing that breast cancer runs in my family. Testing negative for the BRCA gene doesn’t guarantee the chance of not getting cancer. It’s a blessing that I caught the cancer before being aggressive.”

RELATED VIDEO: Andy Cohen’s Pick For The Most Absurd Real Housewives Business Ever

As of now, Sulahian — who will document the process of getting reconstructive surgery on the show — is “100% cancer free.”

“Please stay on top of your appointments in order to dodge this terrible disease,” she wrote. “I want to emphasize that testing negative on the BRCA gene does NOT guarantee being free of cancer. Putting your life in the hands of a reconstructive surgeon isn’t easy. It’s a long healing process mentally and physically, but completely worth not living the rest of your life in fear. I’m currently considering becoming active in the cancer communities, in order to offer my advice, hear more stories, and provide emotional support for women encountering the road block in their life.”

The Real Housewives of Orange County airs Mondays (9 p.m. ET) on Bravo.

Nikki Bella Wants People to Know She’s ‘Not Just Muscles and Headlocks’

Nikki Bella Wants People to Know She’s ‘Not Just Muscles and Headlocks’

by Dana Rose Falcone @ PEOPLE.com

Nikki Bella dominates in the WWE ring. And she’s already brought her headlocks and body slams to season 25 of Dancing With the Stars.

But on ballroom night Monday, Bella, 33, wanted to prove that she has a softer side amidst the powerful moves she pulls off in the ring.

“I’m not just muscles and headlocks,” she said in rehearsal with partner Artem Chigvintsev. “I need to prove to people that there is this elegant woman in here.”

Bella, who is engaged to fellow wrestler John Cena, credits her nana for bringing out her more feminine side. “If I didn’t have her as a big influence in my life I wouldn’t be like a bigger tomboy than I already am,” the E! star said. “My nana’s elegant, classy and the most amazing woman that’s ever walked this earth.”

Ahead of dancing to Norah Jones’ “Come Away With Me,” Bella said the song reminded her of her nana, who wasn’t in the audience Monday, but watched from home. After receiving a score of 21 out 30 from judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Lenn Goodman and Bruno Tonioli, the wrestling pro reflected on showing her softer side.

“I mean, I miss the throwing down on the floor, but I like seeing this side,” Bella told co-host Erin Andrews. “It felt great. I felt like I was just on Broadway, like I was living this movie.”

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.

Steelers’ Alejandro Villanueva Reveals He Didn’t Mean to Stand Solo for Anthem: ‘I Threw My Teammates Under the Bus’

Steelers’ Alejandro Villanueva Reveals He Didn’t Mean to Stand Solo for Anthem: ‘I Threw My Teammates Under the Bus’

by Alexia Fernandez @ PEOPLE.com

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva says he didn’t intentionally choose to stand alone during the national anthem in Chicago.

Villanueva, a former Army Ranger, said in a press conference Monday that he felt “embarrassed” for the attention his mistake garnered.

“Unfortunately, I threw my teammates under the bus, unintentionally,” he said. “Every single time I see that picture of me, standing by myself, I feel embarrassed.”

Villanueva was the only Steelers player who stood outside the tunnel before their game Sunday against the Chicago Bears. The rest of his team chose not to take the field as part of the widespread NFL protest.

The former Army Ranger said quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said he could be out in front with the captains during the national anthem but that he went too far out.

“When we came out of the locker room into that tunnel, it was a very small area,” he said. “There was a flag or something coming off the field so there was a bunch of Bears’ fans, coming off the field holding that going in front of us, so it kind of held us up.”

“I made my teammates look bad, and that is my fault, and my fault only,” Villanueva said. “We as a team tried to figure it out, but obviously butchered it.”

Head coach Mike Tomlin told CBS Sports about the team’s plans before the game.

“We’re not participating in the anthem today, not to be disrespectful to the anthem – to remove ourselves from this circumstance,” he said. “People shouldn’t have to choose. If a guy wants to go about his normal business and participate in the anthem, he shouldn’t be forced to choose sides. If a guy feels the need to do something, he shouldn’t be separated from his teammate who chooses not to.”

After the game, it was clear that Tomlin was unhappy that Villanueva, who served three tours in Afghanistan, had broken ranks.

“Like I said, I was looking for 100 percent participation,” Tomlin said during a post-game press conference after the Steelers’ loss to the Chicago Bears. “We’re going to be respectful of our football team. Man, these are divisive times.”

While a mistake, many applauded Villanueva and the player’s jersey was listed as the sixth top-selling jersey as of Monday morning. (ESPN Sports Business Reporter Darren Rovell noted on Twitter that search results were also factored into the ranking.)

Pregnancy issues / health concerns / scares

by @ Pregnancy Group: A place to chat about all things related to pregnancy RSS Feed

Has anyone had any pregnancy issues / health concerns / scares during pregnancy?  I've shared my prior pregnancy stories in the loss thread, but I don't think I've talked about my scare(s) for this one.

If it's not already a given, this thread can get to be TMI, so read at your own risk.  I don't like to filter too much and I like to share as truly as something happened, so...read at your own risk!

Obviously, given my history, I was super nervous about this pregnancy and I remember in the very beginning, maybe about 9 weeks?  I had the day off of work and my sister and I were getting a pedicure and I used the bathroom before we left and there was blood.  Not a lot like period blood, but it was def red blood which is considered the more dangerous kind (then brown).  Luckily I was right down the road from my RE's office (RE = reproductive endocrinologist) and I called crying and they had me come right in.  They were able to see that all was well with the pregnancy and that the bleeding was a result of the sac growing and it hit a blood vessel (or something).  So the blood was just a temporary thing and all was well, but scary as hell!!! I think I bled for about 3 days?  But always light and fresh blood.

I've had other complaints throughout the pregnancy, but so far nothing that's made me completely miserable.  I'll list them.

  • lower back ache - ever since my first surgery, I've had back problems and this pain hasn't let up yet this time
  • insomnia - if you read the other threads, you know that I had a bad year last year and was already going through a lot.  I was able to take sleeping pills to help with that but once I got pregnant, I had to stop taking them and I've only had a rare good nights sleep since.  I take melatonin to help me sleep and I also tried a Bach flower essence remedy called "rescue sleep" and I think that helped me as well.  I also have my husband sleep in the guest room sometimes so that I have less disruptions.
  • pee, pee and more pee - I've always had a small bladder, but man, I wasn't ready for this!  Most nights I pee at least every 2 hours and some nights once per hour.  It's more often during the day too.
  • pelvic pressure - this is a more recent development and maybe it will sound weird, but the way I verbalized it to my mom was "I feel like my vagina is falling out".  The pressure is crazy and it's always worst when I first stand up and walk and as I move around it gets better.
  • upper back pain - this is also a fairly new development and I'm assuming it has to do with the changes in the way that I walk/stand/sit b/c of the extra weight in my midsection.  It's not terrible, but it's def there.

So far, I think that's all I have to share and like I said earlier, none of these "complaints" are really complaints, they are just observations about what's going on with my body.  Ok, maybe the lack of sleep is a real complaint.

Wedding traditions In Santorini

Getting married in Greece is a really big deal throughout the centuries. All over Greece there are some very special customs and traditions. In Santorini there are some interesting trends when it comes to modern Weddings. Especially for those of you that are interested in having something unique for their most special day, below I give you 4 local trends that all weddings in Santorini should include:

Music

Local Musicians:
Tradition on the island has it that the bride is escorted by local musicians throughout the way from her house to the venue of the wedding. Traditional wedding songs are sung throughout the way and sometimes the musicians make some lyrics on the way saying a story for the bride and groom. The most traditional musical instruments are the Violin and Lute or Outi in Santorini and the musicians are always dressed in the traditional costumes of the island.

Favors

Koufeto:
Koufeto is a local Cycladic sweet that is served to all guests after the ceremony of the Wedding. Tradition has is that the first to taste the Koufeto are the bride and Groom and then all the rest of the family and guests. Koufeto is a combination of honey and almonds prepared in a special local recipe. The custom started many years ago and honey was offered as a sample of the sweet years of marriage to come for the couple and the almonds as a symbol of prosperity so that the couple will have strong and healthy offsprings.

Special Events

Donkey Ride:
As Donkeys are the most famous animals on the island of Santorini , they can be the best means of transportation for the Wedding Couple. The story behind this trend is that long ago, before any wheeled vehicles appeared on the island, Donkeys used to take people everywhere they needed to go and so the Bride and Groom also reached and left the Wedding Venue traditionally on them. Since luxury vehicles have arrived on the island Donkeys are mostly used for short rides that provide the couples not only a genuine feeling but also some unforgettable memories and great photos…

Caldera Cruise:
The Caldera of Santorini is a really unique place worldwide. Most of the couples decide to travel to Greece and more specifically in Santorini in order to gaze that scenery and have that amazing background on their wedding memories. If you plan your wedding in Santorini this is a really special idea and something that more and more couples choose nowadays is having a wedding reception on board. Combining a newlywed’s celebration and a Caldera cruise is the ultimate wedding experience. Morning or Sunset, Traditional Wooden boat or a Catamaran Sailing Yacht, this experience will stay with you forever.

Can’t wait to tie the knot in a traditional way in Santorini Island surrounded by breathtaking views at every angle? We don't blame you. Contact Marryposa Royal Events today to talk all things wedding and start planning the day of your dreams.

BethPembrook's Blog - 3 Ways To Use Glitter At Your Wedding

by @ Best Destination Wedding Wedding Blogs

Every girl wants to have a little bit of sparkle and shine in their life, and what better what to celebrate one of the biggest days of your life than with a touch of glitz and glamour. Glitter has become one of the biggest style trends for 2017, there are so many different ways that you can use the stuff throughout the day, whatever the occasion. Here are some simple tips on how you can include glitter and a little bit of more magic into your wedding.

Glitter makeup:

Glitter makeup and face glitter have quickly become one of our all-time favourite wedding makeup trends, it brings uniqueness and glamour into your big day. For the real floor stopping look, try sweeping sparkles across your cheek and into your hair, and if you’re feeling adventurous, even a little bit down your arm. This will give added sparkle to your big day, and will make you shine like a star when you do your first dance as man and wife!

Glitter decorations:

If you want a really personal touch to your wedding, then making your own decorations is a great place to start. Adding glitter to your decorations, wedding gifts and even your bouquet can give a real elegant feel to the occasion. You can either buy decorations and little touches, or you can customise your own and paint them with glitter pots depending on how much time you have before your big day. Painting your bridal bouquet with a layer of glitter can look really beautiful, especially at a winter wedding, as the sparkles look like snowflakes.

Adding glitter to your wardrobe:

Customising your wedding wardrobe is one of the biggest trends that has swept 2017. There are so many personal little touches you can add to make your attire completely unique and special to your day. If you’re looking for the real wow factor that will turn heads as you walk down the aisle, then do something a little bit out of the ordinary and sprinkle glitter on your dress, or pain your shoes with a personalised glitter pattern…perfection.

Help! Trouble Contacting Wc At Dreams Los Cabos

by @ Dreams Los Cabos Weddings RSS Feed

Hi all,
I have recently booked my wedding at Dreams Los Cabos for 10-12-14. Unfortunately, we are having an extremely hard time getting in contact with the WC there.
Initially, we were working with Maricela who was amazing and quick at responding. Then she left, and we were redirected to Magda. When we went to Cabo to do a site visit, we stayed at Dreams and had a horrible first impression of Magda. She did not get in contact with us while we were there until our 2nd or 3rd day at the resort, even though we requested to meet with her on our first day there. We looked beyond that, and still went with Dreams - but when trying to get our contract done with her, she was very unresponsive - making up excuses and saying that her computer broke and that she is the only WC at the resort.
Now we have been reassigned to someone by the name of Angel. He/she started off great by contacting us in early jan to introduce himself - & that's as far as it goes. We haven't heard from him/her yet, and actually we made an "appointment" for a phone call with him/her for today and have been waiting for the call. Almost 2 hours later, we are still waiting...

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing these issues and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to proceed. Does anyone have any Dreams los cabos managers contact info that they can forward along? I'm beginning to get stressed that we made the wrong decision in choosing dreams.

thank you!
Janelle

Ofra5's Blog - Paradisus Cancun Wedding

by @ Best Destination Wedding Wedding Blogs

We have been planning a wedding at the Paradisus Hotel in Cancun for about a year. The wedding took place on May 28, 2017. 120 people came from all over the world to celebrate with us. We had 50 rooms at the hotel.
The person from the Romance department that worked with us was Melina Andrea Guerrero Rios. She was horrible!!!!! Words can not describe the aggravation we had all this year and especially the weekend of the wedding. Melina Andrea Guerrero Rios is unprofessional, does not have a clue how to organize a wedding, we don't understand how she got to this position. She did NOTHING we asked for. Melina Andrea Guerrero Rios over charged us for things she didn't do!!!! We paid $3500 for flowers, and two hours before the wedding Melina tells us that she did not order the flowers and ended up just putting some ugly flower arrangements throughout the wedding area not the flowers that we paid for.
Melina Andrea Guerrero Rios came in the middle of the ceremony and asked us to sign papers for extras putting us in a tight spot where we couldn't even look at what the terms and conditions of those extras were, forcing us to sign minutes before the ceremony under stress and committing to payments that we were not aware of. Melina Andrea Guerrero Rios pulled out the plug of our music in the middle of the reception and asked for extra $2000usd if we wanted to continue for another hour, when asking her to show the contract where the time was stated she pulled out a paper that had the time in very small print without our signature on it, our signature was on all the other pages except that one surprisingly!!! Worst experience ever!!!!! She made the bride and groom very upset!!!! If that wasn't enough we had so many problems with the rooms. Many of our guests had to switch rooms including the bride and groom. Some rooms did not have air conditioning for three days in a row, one room had a leaky air conditioning causing the floor to get wet causing the groom to slip and hurt his arm. The hotel itself has no air conditioning in the lobby at all, or in any of the restaurants in the hotel, the hotel is built with an open top so that they can have airflow but in Cancun with 100% humidity that's just not enough.
Finally after the horrific ordeal with Melina, when we requested to have the centerpieces (valued over $3000) that we provided returned to us, Melina claimed that it's in the contract that we need to pick up the centerpieces immediately as soon as the wedding is over, and now they are lost, (you really expect a bride and groom or family members to start collecting centerpieces in the midst of their celebration?). A day later when we came into Melina's office to discuss the ordeal she had a bunch of our centerpieces sitting in her office, she never bothered to call us and let us know that she found some of them, not even 10% of what we provided.
Finally after being told by Melina that she does not have a supervisor and there is nobody above her that we can talk too we got to one of the hotel managers Mario and after we presented to Mario a bunch of the emails that support all of our claims and all of our complaints including the flowers that we have paid for and ordered, his resolution to all this BS that we had to deal with, was to offer the bride and groom two nights stay at the hotel. The condition was that they would accept this as satisfactory, sign away any rights to future claims and not place any bad reviews about what has happened. Refusing to offer a refund for the stuff that was not provided per our contract. Obviously we refused
So if you are planning a wedding in Paradisus Cancun I would recommend to think again, and definitely for sure not to work with Melina Andrea Guerrero Rios!!!!!!

In all honesty there are some excellent staff members at the hotel namely Tabata Who is in charge of the pool area and the Coco club beach cabanas and her amazing staff such as Manuel who treated us like royalty.

Devastated mother of the bride.

Girl Scout Cookie Baking Mixes to Hit Stores Nationwide

Girl Scout Cookie Baking Mixes to Hit Stores Nationwide

by mariayagoda @ PEOPLE.com

Samoas in cupcake form was a thing we never knew we needed, but now it’s the only thing we can think about.

Pillsbury just unveiled Girl Scout Cookie baking mixes, which are available in Thin Mints and Caramel & Coconut – a.k.a. Samoas – flavors. The four new mixes are for baking cupcakes, brownies and blondies — unfortunately, you won’t be able to make actual Girl Scout Cookies, because that would put a lot of 7-year-olds out of business.

RELATED: Leonardo DiCaprio Eating Girl Scout Cookies at the Oscars Is the Internet’s Best New Meme

“Families can try out their favorite cookie flavors in the form of brownies, cupcakes, and blondies, while they wait for the real thing once a year during Girl Scout Cookie season,” said Girl Scouts of the USA chief revenue officer Barry Horowitz in a statement.

GSC loyalists are, to put it mildly, freaking out.

The mixes, now available nationwide, retail for $3.29 each — almost $2 less than what you’d pay for a box of cookies.

Easily the best part of all this news is the fact that we will now be able to eat Girl Scout Cookie dough, something we never thought would be possible in our lifetimes!

Also Samoas-flavored birthday cake.

Can you tell we’re excited about it?

Shonda Rhimes Thinks Hollywood Is Making A “Giant Mistake” By Failing to Embrace Diversity

Shonda Rhimes Thinks Hollywood Is Making A “Giant Mistake” By Failing to Embrace Diversity

by Thatiana Diaz @ PEOPLE.com

It’s been a big year for Shonda Rhimes, the writer and executive producer behind hit shows like Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away With Murder. It was announced last month that Rhimes would be leaving ABC to join the streaming giant Netflix, where she signed a multi-year deal as a producer for new series and other projects. Despite becoming a household name, she feels that Hollywood has a lot of work to do when it comes to inclusion.

Rhimes spoke to Latina.com about the lack of diversity onscreen. “It is a bit embarrassing to me that media and the industry hasn’t grown past itself,” she said. “Interestingly enough, what I find most shocking is that financially it’s just a giant mistake on the part of TV and movies and products to not portray, or reach out to a multitude of cultures, instead of just thinking of one kind of person and one kind of interest.”

She told that less diversity perpetuates stereotypes: “When you’re the only one of something, the tendency is that you have to represent everybody. So then you end being a stereotype or a totem, or perfect, it’s definitely frustrating.”

The prolific producer also fangirled over Latina actresses Salma Hayek and Sara Ramirez from Grey’s Anatomy. “Sara Ramirez had a lot of input and smart things to say and there was a lot of creation in that character; she really went for things,” she said. She also revealed that she was “heartbroken” when Ramirez decided to leave the show.

This isn’t the first time Rhimes has spoken out about Hollywood’s lack of diversity. While accepting the Norman Lear Achievement Award at the Producers Guild Awards last year, she urged her fellow storytellers to create more examples of strong black women in America. “What are we waiting for? I mean, I know this is a room full of producers, so probably you’re waiting for money. Clearly, money,” she bluntly said.

Wedding Party Ideas

by @ General Wedding Planning Information RSS Feed

Hi there,

Last day, I went to a wedding.  it was really boring. We were talking the whole time and the song played was not impressive. Honestly, it was not good and everyone got bored. We are planning interesting programs for our wedding, which is next month, I don't want the wedding without any entertainment, but we have only a low budget. So I am looking for a DIY wedding plan. I read that DIY photo booth are cool for the party  http://www.abbeyroadentertainment.com/blog/photo-booths/ideas-diy-photo-booth-accessories-event/and I am planning to keep photo booth for the wedding. Should I add anything else for entertaining? Any DIY ideas would be helpful?

Why Wyclef Jean Stepped Out of the Spotlight: 'People Don't Understand When You Say It's Lonely at the Top'

Why Wyclef Jean Stepped Out of the Spotlight: 'People Don't Understand When You Say It's Lonely at the Top'

by Janine Rubenstein @ PEOPLE.com

Gone Till November? Nope, Wyclef is back!

It’s been eight years since the Grammy-winning music star’s last studio album, but Wyclef Jean is finally stepping back into the spotlight with the Sept. 15 release of The Carnival III.

“Coming back into music is like drinking water, it’s a natural thing,” Jean, 47, tells PEOPLE. “It’s a space of belonging.”

But he didn’t always feel that way. Nearly a decade ago the former Fugees frontman and Shakira‘s “Hips Don’t Lie” collaborator decided to take a step back from the music scene. “It was like when John Lennon left The Beatles for a minute and he went to just try and find himself,” says Jean. “I don’t think people understand when you say ‘It’s lonely at the top.'”

The decision to take time off coincided with his highly publicized run for president of Haiti in 2010, following the earthquake that devastated his birth country. “Besides losing my father, the hardest thing I could have ever done was going into the space of politics,” he says. Not long after announcing his candidacy, Jean was deemed ineligible for office, due to his not residing in the country.

“It was really a dark space, but for me, within the course of history I had to sacrifice myself like that for my country. I don’t feel like I got defeated. I feel like even though they took me out of the race, the part that they don’t talk about is what was it that I was fighting for.” Says Jean, “Me running gave so much attention that today we have a younger government in the country. To know that I was part of that cycle change, to me was the most important.”

Despite the ordeal taking a toll on him, he says it was something he did for his country, and for himself.

“Through the years I’ve watched some of my peers have drug overdoses, I’ve lost certain people through suicide, just different things, so it really comes to a point in your life where you’ll be like, ‘Ok, you’re responsible for 100 million records but what have you really done as a person? Like what’s the purpose?'” says Jean.

As for the current political climate in America, he says he’ll never retire from trying to make a difference.

“These United States of America are what make me who I am and I have a serious love for the communities where I come from, like growing up in the projects, watching failed policies and seeing how I got out and thinking how can I help other kids get out,” says Jean. “As I get older wanting to do something is part of my DNA.”

But these days the musician, who lives in New Jersey with wife Claudinette, daughter Angelina and the family’s poodle, says he’s happy to get back to the music that started it all. Says Jean, “It feels like I haven’t missed a beat.”

Let's talk BABY NAMES!

by @ Pregnancy Group: A place to chat about all things related to pregnancy RSS Feed

Talking baby names is one of my favorite things to do.  For as long as I can remember, I've kept lists of my favorite names.  When I moved recently, I found my list from when I was in HS and had to laugh at some of them (Heaven Leigh) while some of them were still on my faves list (Christian).

We don't know the sex of our baby yet, so we're trying to talk about both names but have a terrible time with boys.  To give a very small background, I'm Irish but my family has been here for generations and my husband is Italian and first generation here.  I also lost my little brother this year and would like to incorporate his name into our child.  His name was Ryan William, but I don't want to use either name straight out b/c I think it's too soon and too heavy to put that on a child.  But since my kids will never get to meet their uncle, I want there to be some connection.  So far, here are our names and thoughts:

Boys: (we don't really like ANY names, but this one keep coming up)

  • Lorenzo / Enzo
  • Theo (but I don't care for Theodore)

Girls: (so much easier, I seriously have such a long list it's hard to narrow down)

  • Luciana Willa (this is my hubs #1 and he thinks we are done, I like it but not ready to say this is it) Lu for short
  • Viviana Willa
  • Valentina Willa
  • I could list probably 20+ more but I'll keep it simple for now....

Chip and Joanna Gaines Share Their Hilarious First Date Story

Chip and Joanna Gaines Share Their Hilarious First Date Story

by Megan Stein @ PEOPLE.com

Chip and Joanna Gaines are the definition of marriage goals, but their relationship didn’t necessarily have a fairytale start.

In the first chapter of The Magnolia Storyreleased as a sneak peek today, the Fixer Upper dream team spills the details of how they met — and it wasn’t exactly love at first sight.

Joanna agreed to go out on a date with Chip after meeting him and his roommate “Hot John” — who she actually tried to approach minutes earlier, but was too shy — in the waiting room of her dad’s auto shop. She had second thoughts, however, after Chip arrived an hour and a half late to pick her up.

“He didn’t apologize for being late, either. He had so much confidence. I don’t know. I can’t explain it. Only Chip could be an hour and a half late and have no one mad about it,” Joanna writes.

The chapter continues to describe the timeline of their relationship, which didn’t actually start until months after they first went out, when Chip (in typical guy fashion) finally called Joanna back.

“I’d made a bet with Hot John to see who could hold out the longest before calling our dates back,” Chip writes “I really wanted that fifty dollars from John! That’s the only reason I didn’t call.”

After they went out a second time, the rest was history.

Thoughts on ECV? (manual turning of breech baby)

by @ Pregnancy Group: A place to chat about all things related to pregnancy RSS Feed

Tomorrow is the first day of my 38th week and baby boy is still transverse breech.  He flips around a lot, but only from side to side, he's never been head down.  I've tried various things, sitting in certain positions, yoga poses, etc, and he still isn't in position.

Tomorrow is my monthly ultrasound and if he is still breech, they want to schedule an ECV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/External_cephalic_version) for Wednesday.  For some reason, the thought of this scares the shit out of me.  It just seems unnatural and painful to me and I'm really unsure whether I want to try it or not.

I told my midwife of my concerns (unsuccessful, painful, and baby moves back) and she confirmed that these are all kind of true.  She said that her experience is about 40% success rate, and it's more of a discomfort then pain, and that the baby only tends to move back if it's not a first born child.

My thoughts are that women have been giving birth to babies for millions of years and the baby knows what he's supposed to do.  If he's not turning maybe there is a reason.  Maybe he isn't meant to be birthed vaginally.  Maybe he doesn't fit that way in my pelvis.  Maybe, maybe, maybe, I know.

Probably my biggest fear is that he would turn and then we would go through an attempt at a vaginal birth only to have him NOT fit through my pelvic canal and end up having a c-section.  I really don't want to double tax my body by going through basically both types of birth when my body was telling me all along that he wouldn't be birthed vaginally.

Then I think, do I sound like a crazy person?  WTF am I supposed to do?  I'm so confused!  Thoughts?
