Kelsea Ballerini Is ‘Pretty Much Done’ Wedding Planning

Kelsea Ballerini Is ‘Pretty Much Done’ Wedding Planning

by Mark Gray @ PEOPLE.com

Kelsea Ballerini is ready to head down the aisle, but she and her fiancé, Morgan Evans, have a few things to accomplish before tying the knot.

“We’re getting close,” she told PEOPLE Saturday of the nuptials. “He has as single to put out. I have an album to put out beforehand, so we’re both very busy, but I think we’re pretty much done. I have the dress. We have the place. We have the plane ticket. We’re ready to go.”

While many stress and stress over the wedding, Ballerini, 24, said it was pretty much smooth sailing for her.

“The dress was the easy part. Everything has been easy,” she said, revealing little else about what she’ll wear. “I get to marry him.”

Last week, she even celebrated that rite of passage: Her bachelorette party, which she did in Las Vegas.

On Saturday afternoon, she was back in Sin City, this time performing at iHeartRadio Music Festival Village. With her beau attending and watching from backstage, Ballerini whipped through a four-song set that included her newest single “Legends.”

“I feel like it’s been a chameleon song. Different people hear it different ways. Some people hear it as a breakup song,” she said of the single. “Some people hear it as a lost kind of song. Some people hear it as a love song. For me, it’s a love song, and it’s about a love that doesn’t necessarily have to end, and one that you’re just reflecting on knowing that it’s going to be important.”

The music video for the song is rather intense, as it portrays a fatal car crash. That, she says, was always in her mind.

“When I first wrote it two years ago, I always envisioned a car wreck for the video,” she said. “The video is very sad and dramatic and intense, but it’s always how I pictured it. I never thought of it as a breakup song. I always thought of it as a beautiful love story that ends tragically, and that video really captures that.”

Chip and Joanna Gaines Share Their Hilarious First Date Story

Chip and Joanna Gaines Share Their Hilarious First Date Story

by Megan Stein @ PEOPLE.com

Chip and Joanna Gaines are the definition of marriage goals, but their relationship didn’t necessarily have a fairytale start.

In the first chapter of The Magnolia Storyreleased as a sneak peek today, the Fixer Upper dream team spills the details of how they met — and it wasn’t exactly love at first sight.

Joanna agreed to go out on a date with Chip after meeting him and his roommate “Hot John” — who she actually tried to approach minutes earlier, but was too shy — in the waiting room of her dad’s auto shop. She had second thoughts, however, after Chip arrived an hour and a half late to pick her up.

“He didn’t apologize for being late, either. He had so much confidence. I don’t know. I can’t explain it. Only Chip could be an hour and a half late and have no one mad about it,” Joanna writes.

WATCH THIS: HGTV Stars Anthony Carrino and John Colaneri Compete to Make the Better Birdhouse

The chapter continues to describe the timeline of their relationship, which didn’t actually start until months after they first went out, when Chip (in typical guy fashion) finally called Joanna back.

“I’d made a bet with Hot John to see who could hold out the longest before calling our dates back,” Chip writes “I really wanted that fifty dollars from John! That’s the only reason I didn’t call.”

After they went out a second time, the rest was history.

What I Wore: On the Beach

by Alison Gary @ Wardrobe Oxygen

Greetings from Santa Barbara! If you’re following me on Instagram you know I’m in California for a blogging conference as the guest of the beauty company L’Occitaine. It’s such a beautiful part of the country, I’ve never been here before. In fact, every other time I’ve been in California it’s been for short trips, less than 48 hours, and most of that time was spent in hotels, conference rooms, and studios. So I was PSYCHED to see on the conference agenda they were having a beach party! Dress: c/o Soma Intimates (old; see other dresses from Soma) | Earrings: Amazon | Cuff: Had forever (similar) | Shoes: Birkenstocks | Sunglasses: Ray-Ban The dress code just said “wear your flip flops.” Well, I don’t own flip flops, but I do have a couple pairs of Birks and chose to wear my silver metallic pair. Knowing we’d be at the beach, I wanted something that would repel sand, handle being knotted to dip my toes in the surf, and be comfortable. Soma Intimates sent me this dress last year and it’s only been on the blog once but been worn dozens of times. It’s a silky jersey that’s light enough to have […]

by @ Miscellaneous - Articles

IP.Board 3.1 introduces a new feature that is available for any application to make use of: sharing links. IP.Content makes use of this feature in the custom databases (and articles) modules to allow you to more easily expose your content to a wider audience.

Along with supporting sharing of your content with third party services such as Facebook and Twitter, you can now also send an article via email, print the article, and download the article easily by clicking the appropriate icon under the article body. The additional printing and downloading features allow the content to be shared, online as well as offline.

Within the articles module specifically, the article image that you upload when posting the article (optionally) will automatically be flagged for use with Facebook when someone uses Facebook to share the link. This ensures that the correct image is the one Facebook displays to other users. Similarly, we pull out an appropriate extract of textual content for Facebook to use as well. If the user is logged in to Twitter or Facebook, sharing the content becomes even easier, not requiring you to even leave the site.

We hope that by providing tools to make it easier to share content on your site, your content will be exposed to a wider audience, bringing you more traffic and making your content more easily and readily available to the world.

I’ve been wearing bareMinerals Original Foundation for years. As someone with rosacea and dry skin, finding the right foundation has not been easy. Since last year, I’ve added bareMineral’s bareSkin and Complexion Rescue to my makeup bag. I like them all and use them for different things so I thought it might be helpful to do a little comparison and review and show how I wear them all. Steelers’ Alejandro Villanueva Reveals He Didn’t Mean to Stand Solo for Anthem: ‘I Threw My Teammates Under the Bus’

Steelers’ Alejandro Villanueva Reveals He Didn’t Mean to Stand Solo for Anthem: ‘I Threw My Teammates Under the Bus’

by Alexia Fernandez @ PEOPLE.com

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva says he didn’t intentionally choose to stand alone during the national anthem in Chicago.

Villanueva, a former Army Ranger, said in a press conference Monday that he felt “embarrassed” for the attention his mistake garnered.

“Unfortunately, I threw my teammates under the bus, unintentionally,” he said. “Every single time I see that picture of me, standing by myself, I feel embarrassed.”

Villanueva was the only Steelers player who stood outside the tunnel before their game Sunday against the Chicago Bears. The rest of his team chose not to take the field as part of the widespread NFL protest.

The former Army Ranger said quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said he could be out in front with the captains during the national anthem but that he went too far out.

“When we came out of the locker room into that tunnel, it was a very small area,” he said. “There was a flag or something coming off the field so there was a bunch of Bears’ fans, coming off the field holding that going in front of us, so it kind of held us up.”

“I made my teammates look bad, and that is my fault, and my fault only,” Villanueva said. “We as a team tried to figure it out, but obviously butchered it.”

Head coach Mike Tomlin told CBS Sports about the team’s plans before the game.

“We’re not participating in the anthem today, not to be disrespectful to the anthem – to remove ourselves from this circumstance,” he said. “People shouldn’t have to choose. If a guy wants to go about his normal business and participate in the anthem, he shouldn’t be forced to choose sides. If a guy feels the need to do something, he shouldn’t be separated from his teammate who chooses not to.”

After the game, it was clear that Tomlin was unhappy that Villanueva, who served three tours in Afghanistan, had broken ranks.

“Like I said, I was looking for 100 percent participation,” Tomlin said during a post-game press conference after the Steelers’ loss to the Chicago Bears. “We’re going to be respectful of our football team. Man, these are divisive times.”

While a mistake, many applauded Villanueva and the player’s jersey was listed as the sixth top-selling jersey as of Monday morning. (ESPN Sports Business Reporter Darren Rovell noted on Twitter that search results were also factored into the ranking.)

Girl Scout Cookie Baking Mixes to Hit Stores Nationwide

Girl Scout Cookie Baking Mixes to Hit Stores Nationwide

by mariayagoda @ PEOPLE.com

Samoas in cupcake form was a thing we never knew we needed, but now it’s the only thing we can think about.

Pillsbury just unveiled Girl Scout Cookie baking mixes, which are available in Thin Mints and Caramel & Coconut – a.k.a. Samoas – flavors. The four new mixes are for baking cupcakes, brownies and blondies — unfortunately, you won’t be able to make actual Girl Scout Cookies, because that would put a lot of 7-year-olds out of business.

RELATED: Leonardo DiCaprio Eating Girl Scout Cookies at the Oscars Is the Internet’s Best New Meme

“Families can try out their favorite cookie flavors in the form of brownies, cupcakes, and blondies, while they wait for the real thing once a year during Girl Scout Cookie season,” said Girl Scouts of the USA chief revenue officer Barry Horowitz in a statement.

GSC loyalists are, to put it mildly, freaking out.

The mixes, now available nationwide, retail for $3.29 each — almost $2 less than what you’d pay for a box of cookies.

Easily the best part of all this news is the fact that we will now be able to eat Girl Scout Cookie dough, something we never thought would be possible in our lifetimes!

Also Thin Mint brownie sundaes.

Also Samoas-flavored birthday cake.

Can you tell we’re excited about it?

Finally! An Eco-Friendly Vegan Leather Exists and You Can Buy It!

You don’t have to be vegan to dislike leather. The leather industry would like you to think they’re doing the world a favor by taking this animal waste from the meat market and keeping it out of landfills. But there is nothing ethical or sustainable about conventional leather tanning.

Green Beauty Review: Simple and Nourishing Beauty Is What I Need Right Now

by Catherine Harper @ Ecocult

Minimalism is one of those trends that may prove to be truly evergreen. With the hustle of modern life and the instability of the current political climate, it’s refreshing to find products that are simply made and easy to use. Kaliks Collective, a brand of handcrafted, small batch skincare, truly exemplifies the basic tenets of minimalism. The story behind Kaliks Collective is familiar: founder Allison Hodge suffered from skin issues for many years and, unable to find products to soothe her own skin, she began learning to make her own. Research is at the core of Kaliks Collective’s philosophy, and Allison studied functional medicine and herbs while earning certifications as a Western Herbalist and a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner. She is currently working to earn a diploma in Organic Skincare Formulation. This dedication to the science behind the ingredients is evident within her products, as each is carefully formulated with with no more than 12 ingredients that offer medicinal and healing effects. As someone with sensitive skin, I was fortunate to try all four of Kaliks Collective’s products, and each item is gentle and soothing. Currently, the line features a cleanser, hydrosol, facial oil, and bath soak. A perfume oil […]

Beauty Review: Is Everyday Minerals a Non-Toxic and Eco-Friendly Alternative to bareMinerals? - Ecocult

Beauty Review: Is Everyday Minerals a Non-Toxic and Eco-Friendly Alternative to bareMinerals? - Ecocult

Ecocult

Last month when I was wandering the floor at Natural Products Expo West, I stopped by a booth for a makeup company called Everyday Minerals. I was curious, because I’ve been using bareMinerals for some time, and had an inkling I should find a replacement. bareMinerals isn’t so toxic, but I feel like there is always room for improvement, right? Sign Up for EcoCult’s Newsletter The very nice girl working the booth told me that Everyday Minerals is indeed less toxic than bareMinerals, and that her skin had actually cleared up after she made the switch. Intrigued, I took home some samples to try for myself. Here’s what I found: The Price Everyday Minerals is very much cheaper than bareMinerals. For example, BM’s concealer costs $18 while EDM’s costs $9. However, it might be worth paying for the built-in SPF broad spectrum protection you get in bareMinerals products. Winner: Everyday Minerals by a mile The Look When I tried on Everyday Minerals, I felt that I had a healthier, more fresh and shimmery glow. And their concealer gave me as much coverage over blemishes and under-eye circles, without the heavy, powdery look. Winner: Everyday Minerals The Ingredients As far as ingredients, let’s start …

Am I Allergic to Bare Minerals? Here's How to Tell. | Alpha Mom

Alpha Mom

Amy, I have been reading your blogs on and off for a lot of years now. Sometimes I get a little too addicted to the Internet and have to make myself stop for a while. But I always come back. :) Anyway, I have a question. It's sort of time sensitive since it involves whether or not I am having a makeup reaction and should stop using it before my face falls off (but I know you receive zillions of e-mails and might not be able to respond right away--just thought it wouldn't hurt to try asking you). I just recently purchased the Bare Minerals starter kit because I wanted something very light and natural. Confession: I am mostly a makeup virgin. Ok, I have worn it before. I have some makeup that I break out for special occasions. But no one ever really taught me how to use it well, and I never felt like I needed it. Now, I still don't think I NEED it, but I have had makeup done on me (by salons, at Mary Kay parties, and so on), and I've seen how a nice, simple "routine" can make me look

LeeAnne Locken Threatens to Strangle Cary Deuber: ‘They’re Just Hands, But They Work Quite Well’

LeeAnne Locken Threatens to Strangle Cary Deuber: ‘They’re Just Hands, But They Work Quite Well’

by Dave Quinn @ PEOPLE.com

LeeAnne Locken promised fans and her Real Housewives of Dallas costars that she had turned over a new leaf this season, even going to therapy to get a hold of some of her anger management problems.

But on Monday’s episode, it looked like “the old LeeAnne” was back in full force when — frustrated over digs costar Cary Deuber had made about her plastic surgeon — Locken popped off and promised that Deuber’s words were going to get her “in big trouble.”

“Why is it so f—— important to Cary to come for me all the time?” Locken asked friend Brandi Redmond while waiting in the office of Dr. Robert True hours before having her breasts redone. “Because I’m gonna do something. She’s gonna come for me one day, and it isn’t gonna be pretty.”

“I didn’t grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth,” Locken continued. “I grew up with a lot of things in my hands, and they’re not knives, they’re just hands. But they work quite well.”

They were big threats to make to Deuber, who is a registered nurse and operative assistant to her plastic surgeon husband Mark. But Locken felt that Deuber had thrown the first punch by claiming Dr. True wasn’t board-certified as a plastic surgeon.

“He’s triple board-certified,” Locken said in defense of Dr. True. “He’s a board-certified OBGYN, a board-certified plastic surgeon and a board-certified hormone replacement specialist. He is a great guy even though Cary has issues with him. He handles all of my hormones. He does all of my botox.”

“I didn’t bring up surgery around her especially because I didn’t want her disrespecting my doctor. And what does she do? Disrespect my doctor,” Locked added to Redmond. “Do you remember when you had your ‘Mommy Makeover?’ How bad did she make you question the doctor? If it was just me it would be one thing but I remember you being so upset and freaked out and worried that you weren’t going to the right doctor. And did your surgery turn out okay? So what’s the f——- point? You can’t slam every doctor in town just because your husband is a doctor.”

Strangling wasn’t the only threat thrown Deuber’s way in Locken’s behind-closed-doors rant, though. The 50-year-old, newly engaged reality star also claimed Deuber’s husband Mark had been involved in sexual experiences with other men.

“Her husband gets his d— sucked at The Round-Up,” Locken said, naming a popular country-western gay bar and dance hall in Dallas. “I know the boys who did it.”

Her allegations about Mark were shocking, but it was the threat of strangling that left Redmond ultimately worried for her friend, Deuber.

“It’s not normal to sit there and threaten people’s lives,” she confessed to viewers before later claiming Locken “was spitting my face as she was saying it and her eyes were delusional.”

She then told Deuber about the threats, though she decided not to bring up the defamatory comments made about Mark.

“It’s none of my business, it’s nobody’s business,” Redmond explained. “It’s only going to hurt Cary if I start spreading it around. But threatening somebody’s life? It should be on our radar.”

Deuber, for her part, was at her wits end.

“I’m so sick of this. Seriously? Last year it’s how I got my husband, this year she’s going to strangle me?” Deuber lamented. “You don’t threaten people. … I felt like we were in a good place, and then she flipped out on me. What do you even say to someone who has called you all these crazy names?”

Mark was equally frustrated.

“Again with the threats? What the hell is wrong with this crazy woman?” he asked his wife. “I’d like you to avoid her. She has no conscience whatsoever.”

Still, Deuber vowed to remain calm.

“I definitely am sacred but I’m not going to give her the power of acting scared. The more you feed the dragon, the bigger it gets,” Deuber said. “And she has nothing to lose.”

RELATED VIDEO: Which Real Housewives Star Warned Dallas Housewives About Doing the Show?

In true Housewives fashion, Deuber and Locken found themselves together days later on a trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico. And while they avoided one another, Locken did admit to regretting her words.

“I’ve gone out of my way to be nice to her. But honestly, she starts those snide little comments. I have a guttural reaction to her,” Locken said. “The truth is, I’m my own worst enemy. I create my own downfalls.”

Despite not hearing Locken’s allegations about her husband, Deuber has already clapped back at anyone who makes any comments about his sexual orientation.

“Let’s shut that down right now. It’s not cool. … Change your viewpoint,” she wrote on her BravoTV blog in August when Mark was nominated for a Dallas Culture Map Style Mker. “Listen, it is immeasurably ignorant to say someone is ‘gay’ because they like style or art. We all have plenty of friends WHO HAVE great fashion sense and plenty who don’t. It has nothing to do with sexual preference and is very offensive and small-minded to think that way (let alone spew it directly at people like it even matters). I am so proud of my stylishly savvy husband in everything that he does. … At the end of the day, the most important thing here is love.”

The Real Housewives of Dallas airs Mondays (10 p.m. ET) on Bravo.

With This Ring…

by Alison Gary @ Wardrobe Oxygen

When I got engaged, I was 27 and a size 12. Karl bought me a ring in a size 8 which fit perfectly in November 2002 when he proposed, but was a bit snug in the warmer months when hands swell. When I got engaged, I went on a diet. Actually, I went on a few different diets, finally settling on the South Beach Diet. By time I was having my wedding dress altered, I was a size 10. This was the time when we also bought my wedding band, also a size 8. I got married in June of 2004. By August, wearing both rings was uncomfortable. By December, I was down to just wearing my engagement ring, only putting on the wedding band for social situations. When I got pregnant, the engagement ring no longer fit. I would try to squeeze it on occasionally, but couldn’t wear for long before it got uncomfortable. I shared on the blog when thanks to Weight Watchers I was able to fit my ring again. But that didn’t last. I stopped Weight Watchers when I saw myself adopting bad habits to stay within my points. I haven’t been able to wear any […]

Why Wyclef Jean Stepped Out of the Spotlight: 'People Don't Understand When You Say It's Lonely at the Top'

Why Wyclef Jean Stepped Out of the Spotlight: 'People Don't Understand When You Say It's Lonely at the Top'

by Janine Rubenstein @ PEOPLE.com

Gone Till November? Nope, Wyclef is back!

It’s been eight years since the Grammy-winning music star’s last studio album, but Wyclef Jean is finally stepping back into the spotlight with the Sept. 15 release of The Carnival III.

“Coming back into music is like drinking water, it’s a natural thing,” Jean, 47, tells PEOPLE. “It’s a space of belonging.”

But he didn’t always feel that way. Nearly a decade ago the former Fugees frontman and Shakira‘s “Hips Don’t Lie” collaborator decided to take a step back from the music scene. “It was like when John Lennon left The Beatles for a minute and he went to just try and find himself,” says Jean. “I don’t think people understand when you say ‘It’s lonely at the top.'”

The decision to take time off coincided with his highly publicized run for president of Haiti in 2010, following the earthquake that devastated his birth country. “Besides losing my father, the hardest thing I could have ever done was going into the space of politics,” he says. Not long after announcing his candidacy, Jean was deemed ineligible for office, due to his not residing in the country.

“It was really a dark space, but for me, within the course of history I had to sacrifice myself like that for my country. I don’t feel like I got defeated. I feel like even though they took me out of the race, the part that they don’t talk about is what was it that I was fighting for.” Says Jean, “Me running gave so much attention that today we have a younger government in the country. To know that I was part of that cycle change, to me was the most important.”

Despite the ordeal taking a toll on him, he says it was something he did for his country, and for himself.

“Through the years I’ve watched some of my peers have drug overdoses, I’ve lost certain people through suicide, just different things, so it really comes to a point in your life where you’ll be like, ‘Ok, you’re responsible for 100 million records but what have you really done as a person? Like what’s the purpose?'” says Jean.

As for the current political climate in America, he says he’ll never retire from trying to make a difference.

“These United States of America are what make me who I am and I have a serious love for the communities where I come from, like growing up in the projects, watching failed policies and seeing how I got out and thinking how can I help other kids get out,” says Jean. “As I get older wanting to do something is part of my DNA.”

But these days the musician, who lives in New Jersey with wife Claudinette, daughter Angelina and the family’s poodle, says he’s happy to get back to the music that started it all. Says Jean, “It feels like I haven’t missed a beat.”

The Quintessential Summer Top

by nataliecomstock@gmail.com @ Natalie Dressed :: A Santa Cruz Life + Style Blog

When I think of summer, this top fits in perfectly with my visions of bare feet, worn in denim, the smell of BBQ, swinging in a hammock, feeling the sun on my skin, eating watermelon and sipping rose. The gingham straps carry on the fun sleeve trend while the knit top and easy shape give it a timeless feel. Whether it’s a casual weekend at home, a day spent wine tasting, or attending one of

Shonda Rhimes Thinks Hollywood Is Making A “Giant Mistake” By Failing to Embrace Diversity

Shonda Rhimes Thinks Hollywood Is Making A “Giant Mistake” By Failing to Embrace Diversity

by Thatiana Diaz @ PEOPLE.com

It’s been a big year for Shonda Rhimes, the writer and executive producer behind hit shows like Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away With Murder. It was announced last month that Rhimes would be leaving ABC to join the streaming giant Netflix, where she signed a multi-year deal as a producer for new series and other projects. Despite becoming a household name, she feels that Hollywood has a lot of work to do when it comes to inclusion.

Rhimes spoke to Latina.com about the lack of diversity onscreen. “It is a bit embarrassing to me that media and the industry hasn’t grown past itself,” she said. “Interestingly enough, what I find most shocking is that financially it’s just a giant mistake on the part of TV and movies and products to not portray, or reach out to a multitude of cultures, instead of just thinking of one kind of person and one kind of interest.”

She told that less diversity perpetuates stereotypes: “When you’re the only one of something, the tendency is that you have to represent everybody. So then you end being a stereotype or a totem, or perfect, it’s definitely frustrating.”

The prolific producer also fangirled over Latina actresses Salma Hayek and Sara Ramirez from Grey’s Anatomy. “Sara Ramirez had a lot of input and smart things to say and there was a lot of creation in that character; she really went for things,” she said. She also revealed that she was “heartbroken” when Ramirez decided to leave the show.

This isn’t the first time Rhimes has spoken out about Hollywood’s lack of diversity. While accepting the Norman Lear Achievement Award at the Producers Guild Awards last year, she urged her fellow storytellers to create more examples of strong black women in America. “What are we waiting for? I mean, I know this is a room full of producers, so probably you’re waiting for money. Clearly, money,” she bluntly said.

Recent Retail Hits and Misses: Denim Edition

by Alison Gary @ Wardrobe Oxygen

Fall is back to school… and back to jeans! I have a few pairs that still work from last year, but you curvy girls know the most beloved denim often ends up being the most worn out and eventually unwearable denim. I was looking for some replacements, and some styles to update my wardrobe for fall. And to be honest, a few I ordered just so I could try them out and see if all the hype was worth it.  For reference, I am 5’3″, curvy, usually wear a 14, 14W, or 16P in jeans.  Below what I’ve tried, and whether they are a hit or miss.   Good American High Waist Good Legs Crop Skinny Jeans – 14 Good American is the denim brand by Khloe Kardashian that is getting rave reviews for fitting and flattering a variety of body sizes and types. Reviews say the jeans run long, so I decided to try a crop style so they wouldn’t be dragging on the ground and hopefully normal length on me.  These are very skinny below the knee, so skinny I could hardly get them up.  Reviews said they ran large so I went with a 14 while I […]

The Best Accessory for Summer

by nataliecomstock@gmail.com @ Natalie Dressed :: A Santa Cruz Life + Style Blog

Slowly but surely I’ve found myself acquiring a rather large collection of sunglasses. I’ve become so much more adventurous with them than I used to be – I feel like I’ll try so many more shapes and colors now. And they really can add so much to an outfit. Sometimes I feel like even if my outfit is crap, if I have a great pair of sunglasses on, I feel okay about it. ;) This

Barely There Makeup Tutorial with bareMinerals Liquid Foundation - Elisabeth McKnight

Elisabeth McKnight

Happy Monday! Today I’m partnering with bareMinerals, to bring you a ‘barely there almost no make-up’ look featuring their new bareSkin liquid foundation. I’ve been wearing bareMineral’s powder foundation (and their blush, mascara, eyeshadow, primer, moisturizer + more) for years, so I was thrilled when they announced they were revealing a new liquid formula. What to Bare

What to Bare

Kendal Dockery Photography

I can't even begin to tell you how many different foundations I have tried. Nothing EVER covers right, or it breaks me out, or it cakes up, I mean the list literally goes on and on. As I started on my journey to a land of better makeup I began to learn the correct ways to apply foundation, use primers, and most of all what brushes to use. My first encounter with legit foundation was summer of 2012. Sephora and just opened. Broo was throwing things at me to try and fix me. MakeUp Forever HD was my first foundation love. It covered my freckles and blemishes like freaking white on rice. Our love affair lasted around two years. Does anyone else's skin become use to make up? Like the make up just stops working one day. Just me? Oh, okay. Then I began to use Nars HD foundation. Oh em gee. My skin never has looked so perfect in its entire life. Sadly, something in the foundation was causing deep under-the-skin pimples. I was on the hunt again.I have tried the BareMinerals mineral foundation before. What a joke on my skin. It refused to ever look smooth, cover my freckles, or even stay on for over two hours. So, when the new BareMineral liquid foundation came out I was a skeptic. While I was in Sephora one day I asked them to make me a sample of the foundation. SO MUCH YES. Even though the sample was a three on the shade scale (since I am a ginger they don't see that I am tan, they just think pale leprechaun) and way too pale, the consistency and coverage was amazing. I currently wear a seven in the foundation and think the world of it. It's totally light-weight and gives really great coverage for everyday wear. When I want a little more coverage I first use Garnier BB cream then put the BareMinerals on top of that.A large part of my makeup wakeup was in the brushes. The better the brushes the better the makeup looks and stays on. When I used MakeUp Forever foundations I used a large stippling brush
